Britain also has a hospital ship, the RFA Argus.

God bless the doctors and nurses and patients on those ships
Yet you 20.000 ambulance fee
To be honest we will likely see these ships again in the next World War so given the US militaries level of upkeep these ships make sense. About the closed spaces these probably also save the ship from sinking when they hit a mine. A thing that still attacks them unconditionally.
Everyone: Let’s build hospital ship to save our soldiers. U.S.A: Let’s build a hospital ship to scare our enemies!
This could be a mistake in the future - i mean i was actually surprised seeing this because the UK doesnt have a hospital ship - we lead a global commonwealth of 60 nations i think a hospital ship could be useful....also the UK is literally an island if there is a katastrophe somewhere and hospitals reach capacity it can just park and its ready to go
Wendover, your source on the amount of beds in Maine is wrong. There is over 3,300 inpatient, staffed beds and approximately 338 total ICU beds in Maine. That's more than the two ships combined. The beds from the covid19.healthdata.org is only those beds available AFTER the ones used by non-covid related patients.
San Francisco Pipefitter here. I worked on the USNS MERCY in my youth.
Mercy and Comfort? How sweet.

USA: We may not have the best public heathcare in our Country but our military healthcare is the best in the world US Citizens: Okayyyyyyy??
Why is America's hospital ships so bloody OLD?
HAI: Hospital ships are nearly obsolete due to the efectiveness of the ground hospitals and the easiness to carry the wounded in battle 1:35 Also HAI: the USN should invest in hospital ships more than in new destroyers 8:50 Come on, man...
.
Ffs learn to say Norfolk already
Trump uses them as photo ops
bro, speak in knots, not kph or mph when talking about ships.

I’ve been inside of the Chinese hospital Ship “Ark of peace” in his visit to Exponaval in Chile, it was impressive, not as much as the US hospital ships (almost half the size), but still it really impressed me how a hospital can work in the ship, the only problem was the smell, the whole ship smelled like garlic
I would only guess garlic is useful to hide the smell of oil, diesel, blood, human waste etc or made the crew enjoy garlic in their food idk
Sometime June 2006, the USNS Mercy was deployed to the Southern Philippines in Pacific Partnership. My ship the USS Momsen DDG-92 was operating in the same area when we received a message from CTF70 about 0200 saying they had intel that Muslim insurgents were going to sail a small boat along side the anchored Mercy and detonate the explosives it was carrying. We went to General Quarters, fired up all 4 main engines and headed toward the Mercy at our flank speed. (Well in excess of 30 knots!) The only way we could have gone faster was to enable battle override and run the engines till they self destructed! Luckily, nothing happened to the Mercy and she continued to provide medical support to the local people in desperate need of it.
4:47 Sad to see that my country is unlikely to meet Comfort or Mercy
Willing to bet that the healthcare system is more competent and less bureaucratic than the hospitals on the mainland, where capitalism is not involved
I remember when my physician volunteered for service on the US Hope, which at the time was stationed near Vietnam. I wish you had included that hospital ship in your essay.
Did Wendover just show an American carrier passing through the Suez canal...? I don't really think that would happen.
The U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln passed through the Suez back in 2019 as a deterrent to Iran.

US's medical system: hundreds of dollars for 1 vial of insulin.
4:35 When someone talks about ship speed, I prefer knots. Not hating or anything, but I get a better idea of ship speed that way.
But the disaster didn't happen in Sri Lanka, they have managed it very nicely. Its happening in USA right now. USA needs a intelligent president first of all.
Thank you for this video!
I disagree with your assessment of limiting hospital services to just two stories or less. The old Madigan Army Hospital in Fort Lewis Washington was single story. The Hospitals services were so far apart that personnel were forced to ride bikes down the halls to get from one end to the other. Madigan demolished that hospital and built its current multilevel hospital which saw much improved workflow. Having elevators is not the problem. Optimal positioning and number of such conveyance is key. Example, having multiple elevators prioritized to ER, OR and ICU situated in the same building on multiple floors with emergency override capabilities.... in my experience seems to work the best.
Given the problems caused recently, there seems to be an opportunity to obtain about four cruise ships (for the USA, more by other Nations) and convert them into hospital ships if it is cost effective and safe to do so. If the right deal could be made, it would help the shipping industry and help the World as well.
So the ships are merely propaganda
3:03 I guess they´ll have to buy 10 hospital ships more in order to counterbalance the current image the world has concerning the US health care system
Including the impoverished nation of... New York City?
It's pronounced norfuk
I was stationed on the USNS Mercy on her maiden voyage in 1987....what an honor and privilege it was to serve on her. The Mercy is an amazing ship with amazing crew. If they ever want an old Navy gal back in again so I can once again serve on her, let me know....I am ready to go at ANYTIME. I know of a few hundred of my fellow shipmates who would gladly serve again as well. Just ask us....we will go and do!
What will cost us a Battelship to kill People? no matter..3 Billions...okay we take 50 And what will cost us One Hospital Ship to save Lifes? 257 MIllion, No Way man! That is to Expensive
When you get recovered in that ship you'll pay 10 Grand just for a bed
I saw one of these ships in Norfolk, Virginia
want to hear a joke? US healthcare systems
So this is what free health care could buy? Crazy
Never gonna happen
Lol in war, you can attack a warship and kill those men but if those same men survive and bought in the hospital ship, you cant attack them? i guess thats why war is an expensive business, its a game of war asset destruction so the more you make those ships the harder for the enemy to win
Only 8 Nations have hospital ships. Wrong. Fact check: The United Kingdom's Royal Navy has the Royal Fleet Auxiliary Ship Argus, also a hospital ship/Primary Casualty Receiving Ship.
Navy: hospital ships are kinda meh Fema: these things are great. The navy does love their "gotta go up to go down" ship interiors though
I came here for britannic
What if we used this for Covid
Mercy was recently in CA.
You forgot the British hospital ships that aren't proper hospital ships because guns.
Do the soldiers go into debt from the hospital bills afterwards?
Comfort didnt do her job during COVID... wayy tooo late in the game did the ship start accepting actual covid patients....
Hey Wendover Productions, I was wondering if you take actions to help small channels? Just curious. I’m a new youtuber and my videos are quality but I can’t seem to get any eyes on my content just because I’m a small channel. Thanks
See you all in a couple years when an indie dev who watched this video has made a horror game that takes place on one of these ships
So a hospital ship has a larger budget than most navies if that doesn’t state how well funded the navy is I don’t know what is
Do you love transportation?
so it apply the same rule as a war medic but....it's a ship
Eh decomission them and scrap them and then build 4 more Hospital ships. These new 4 Hospital ships of course should have the top of the line Medical tech and should be designed to be as effective as possible.
US's military healthcare system is better than US's .. Priorities
No shit. It's basic logic. The American military's healthcare system for its troops needs to just treat the men who are casualties of war. This is inherently a tiny number compared to the hundreds of thousands or millions of cases of all kinds of ailments stateside from the civilian populace.
Those ships have got to be haunted
America waste so much money on their navy, like seriously who needs 11 carriers in peace time
Who needs them? All of the countries who inherently rely on the US as part of their defense against large superpowers such as China and Russia, who are only held back by the US and its massive navy, air force, and army.
11 carriers is the reason there is peace time
If there was a huge scale war, I doubt the rules of the Geneva Convention would matter. These could be rather high-value and even then the winning side would be immune to all war crimes they committed while the losing side would be guilty for all of their war crimes. History is written by the victors. But anyways, nice ship.
History isn't written by the victors, this fallacy has been debunked for ages.
As a member of the original crew on her Maiden Voyage in 1987.....I LOVED every single moment serving on her. She is an amazing ship and because of her, my life has never been the same again. I am blessed indeed to have sailed on her, met other amazing officer and enlisted people from THREE branches of the service, and to have traveled to such amazing places...Oh, how I wish I could serve on her again. We were also a small group in the whole world who were able to receive our Golden Shellback certification while crossing the Equator ON the International Date Line. Pretty cool if ya ask me.
Wendover making a video with hospitals: time for the 6:07 clip
Am I the only one that noticed the drone shot at 07:10 was recorded in Helsinki's Kalasatama of a regular office building like three years ago? just found it funny
