  • I just wanted to bring a few things up before anyone else does because I'm sure this video (relating to a couple of hot-button issues) will invite some criticism. - There's a section at 7:31 where we talk about how in general, Chinese vaccines are not as effective as those from Moderna and Pfizer. On screen, we show their different efficacy ratings, and I know there was a popular video by Vox this week that explained why you can't directly compare vaccines to each other off of their efficacy ratings. This is absolutely true, but the general message here, that the attenuated/inactivated virus and other older technologies used by the five currently-approved Chinese vaccines are not as effective compared to those of Moderna and Pfizer is true--mRNA vaccines are known to be more effective than other technologies, and that's part of what makes them such an exciting technology. You can read this article by the Harvard Medical School for an explanation as to why and how: - I want to reiterate the point that I hope the video does: any country donating vaccines to others that have a reduced level of access is a good thing. This video does not criticize that. It merely criticizes the manner in which this is being done. In addition, it brings up the point that this could be strategically problematic for China, based on their own interests. There's definitely the flip side of that which is to say that China is sacrificing vaccinating its population in order to give doses to those that need them most, which is valiant. But again, its not the action this video is criticizing, it's the method. - Also, yes: China mismanaged the epidemic in the beginning, denied its existence, suppressed whistleblowers, etc. Once it flipped the script and started taking action, though, it quickly became one of the countries with one of the most effective suppression programs. While there is some legitimate doubt about numbers and statistics in the early days of the epidemic in China, there's no legitimate doubt that China has effectively suppressed the virus to very low levels of transmission now.

      Maxxie YuanMaxxie Yuan35 րոպե առաջ
    • @Blender Geek yes exactly, China is completely at fault for it's inability to contain the virus in the beginning, the facts agree can verify everything you've said. But where's your fire extinguisher? do you only start hoarding it when a fire breaks out? we've already got plenty of warning from previous fires (ie. SARS, Black Deaths) from that house, so you'd at least expect a possibility of another fire there, right? your argument is that since China wasn't prepared for it, we shouldn't be prepared either. if you want China to pay for the unpreparedness of everyone else, I can understand that. But why didn't anyone force Germany or Europe to pay for the 1918 Flu? Or force the Middle East to pay for MERS? If you look at past economic downturns, many of them originating in the US (1929, 2008) and others (UK-1866, Asia-1990's), it killed many people and drove people into poverty. Yet, no one demanded the US, the UK and Asia to repay for the damages at the time? "oh, it's just our own bad luck lmao" But, when one orange guy, in one country, whines about his own incompetence, the rest of the world now magically wanted China to repay the US (and themselves too) as well? "it's all China's fault! it's got nothing to do with us!"

    • @kool pool Just thing about this, you have disease lurking since november and is only discovered when several patients are in critical condition and that is on December. Thanks to doctor Li Wenliang, he confirmed it be a new SARS type virus. On January 8, you say that the virus is novel coronavirus but say that there is no H2H transmission despite studies claiming it to be, you announce on Jan 14 that the virus is H2H when it is already too late. You have preparations of Chinese new year too in which people are moving from city to city in masses without any masks or social distancing. By January 23rd, you have exported the virus to other countries, it alone suggests the positivity rate inside Wuhan is foreigners are getting infected. People were having shortages of face mask and it was mandatory in Wuhan only before it became a nation wide thing. Only in February did the lockdown came to effect. A lockdown which was too harsh to be honest. Heck, even earlier testing kits were 50/50 accurate. Now compare the number of covid19 to that of 2009 Swine Flu in China. Note that covid19 is more infectious than Swine flu. Swine flu cases: 120k Corona cases: 90k, 30k more cases in Swine Flu despite it having lower infectious rate than that of corona As I stated above, it took China more than 2 months to do something about the virus. And during this point they had the highest daily recorded case of just 14k+. Compare this to USA both in population size, population density, and the 2 month mark *China population=1.4B+ >* America population- 320M+ *China pop./km^2 density=146 >* America pop./km^2=34 China's total covid19 cases from December to February 1= 42,638 *< America's total covid19 cases from Feb 1-April 1=227,269* *China's total 2009 flu cases= 120k+ >* America's total 2009 flu cases=115,318 (Just see how close the numbers are here) The above date just shows how baseless China's covid19 official numbers are

    • @ZeroNumerous Also the lockdown in China was way too harsh, many people were on the brink of starving to death inside their houses, many people of my country living in Wuhan said that they had too low stock and China didn't even send them stock until weeks. Not to mention that China forced it's healthcare staff to work to death by testing people inside their houses and doing it in mass. At least lockdown in our countries ensured that we would have food supply going on.

  • What a strange video. How did you manage to spin China already being virtually covid free for a full year while donating millions of doses of vaccines to foreign countries that Western foreign policy has neglected, negatively? Nearly every single country in the world has been wrecked by the virus, socially and economically, while China is sitting there looking perfectly fine. Look at how many people died and are still dying from the virus in the US, Brazil, India, and all over Europe. China might be behind schedule for domestic vaccine access vs the West, but they also have 4+ times the US' population. Similar to India, China will take longer to vaccinate due to its insane population. And China doesn't need domestic herd immunity if the virus is basically nonexistent already. Sure, entry and exit into the country will continue to be difficult, but so will entry and exit into any country even with herd immunity present. China's vaccines may not be as effective as mRNA vaccines, but as Pfizer's CEO said, patients might need booster shots in as little as 12 months as Covid mutates. Also, mRNA vaccines are very delicate and more difficult to ship due to their temperature requirements, making it more difficult to export to less wealthy countries. Then, you have to look at the other "traditional" vaccines such as AstroZeneca, which have been problematic to say the least due to safety issues, issues the Chinese vaccines do not exhibit. Lastly, the Chinese vaccines are still extremely useful even if they are not able to prevent infection as effectively. They are still just as effective as the best mRNA vaccines like Moderna and Pfizer in preventing serious symptoms that require hospitalization, which is the primary concern when considering load on a healthcare system. Also, how could one ever doubt China's ability to mass produce anything except for maybe bleeding edge semiconductors. The last 30 years of Chinese growth offers enough evidence of Chinese manufacturing effectiveness. You're really grasping at straws to say cHiNa BaD here, and it's an awful look. The bias is so insane. I love your videos, they're full of well-constructed arguments and well-supported evidence, but your conclusion here is so biased. It's almost as if you went into making this video with a negative conclusion already in mind, despite finding increasingly positive evidence for China during your research.

  • this video is so badly informed. 1. Chinese government suffers from the same prob as many other countries in that, many Chinese citizens don't trust government vaccines. So given the lack of urgency because the virus is well under control in China, this is not pressing to get vaccine rates in China up. In other words, it'll take time regardless, because people's perceptions will need time to trust the vaccine. 2. Which leads to second point: China has 5 pharmaceuticals engaging in vaccine research, with a mRNA version rolling out also. So there's a long runway. It's also a balance of risk vs speed. While yes mRNA vaccines are easier to scale up, but they have only gone through Phase III test, not Phase IV, so that means that this new technology while yes meets phase III endpoints, hasn't been tested long term. Traditional vaccines from attenuated virus colony, perhaps less effective (given mutation rate, see flu), are also safer. Which is why many people in the US has been holding off on taking mRNA shots also. So a balanced strategy is: traditional vaccines short term, mRNA longer term, with more testing. 3. Resented vaccines as means of diplomacy - Seriously? What are we, 5 years old? Scarcity of supply means having to make choices. Are you gonna roll out that Foxnews old tripe about "death panels" too? -- lastly -- and I can't stress this enough - China didn't engage in cover up. What the "Main Street Media" did, was per usual lazy journalism and willful slant, mis-represented reality: For those who wanted a point by point account can find it here. But in short * 6 days after virus was confirmed, its genome was sequenced and uploaded into WHO database, where there are tens of American scientist sits. * Reason it took time to confirm human-to-human transmission is, well, you guessed it, fog of war situation. It has to be right, one owes the public responsibility to get it right, or rumors panics will lead to pandemonium. Credibility is at stake. For example, SARS back in the mid-2000's was discovered to spread from human to human, whereas bird flu did not. Again it's important to confirm through tests. And that takes -- yes it's shocking i know - it takes time. Somewhat disappointing, naive even, production. Not up to the usual quality of Wendover Productions.

  • As a Chinese citizen, I don't wonder why the COVID vaccines are going to other countries first, I know why. We have essentially eradicated COVID here, we haven't had any COVID deaths for nearly a year, any new community spread are followed with quick and effective actions to isolate, contract trace, and city wide testing and the spread is quickly stopped. Life has been back to normal in China for better part of a year now, cinemas, restaurants, domestic travel and all. The only thing that is still not back to normal is the mandatory isolation period for international travelers entering China. Meanwhile countries around the world are still suffering from the pandemic, their people dying by the thousands, and their healthcare system on the verge of collapse. So in this kind of scenario, I ask you, where SHOULD the first available doses of the COVID vaccines go? We can, and we are very much willing, to keep up the border control measures for months to a year, if it means thousands of lives in other countries can be saved, especially in countries who cannot fend for themselves, as in do have the capabilities to create their own vaccines. We are willing to make friends with anyone who wishes to be friends, and we are willing to help a friend in need. Obviously that does not include countries that are openly hostile to us, or countries who does not respect our national sovereignty via recognizing ROC government in exiled on the island of Taiwan as an independent state. People in those countries are still innocent, but we cannot help them, as long as their leaders intentionally position their country as our enemy. Change your leader's mind or change your leader, and then we can be friends. What I do wonder, is why is any action we take, regardless of nature, is being portrayed as negative by Americans and their lackeys. When we prioritize vaccines for countries in need, it's "Ermagerd, the SeeSeePee is throwing their own people under the bus for their own international image." I'm sure if we did it the other way around, people like you would be like "Ermagerd, the SeeSeePee is hording all the vaccine for themselves and just watching everyone else die." News flash, there are 1.4 billion people in China, and 90 million of us are members of the communist party. And the rest of us are all family of, or friends with, members of the CCP. After spending years surfing YOUR internet, after reading about your "smash a Toyota" campaign from the 80s when Japan's auto and semiconductor industries threatened to overtake your own, I think I've found the reason. So let me say for you out loud, what you are thinking all along. "How dare those slitty eyed yellow bastards not kneel before the Master Race!"

    • @ROFLCOPTER I don't know if you know this, kids in most of the non-English speaking world, from China to Germany to Brazil, are forced to take English as a mandatory class in school. None of us choose to take it, but because we live in the age of Pax Americana, we have to. Oh and any Chinese American born in America is no more "immigrant" than any white person born in America, none of you are ancestral to that land. Remember that. You see the world through your rose colored first world lenses, but the world doesn't have time to put up with your first world hissy fits. For rest of us, we do have the privilege to expect the world to be ideal. We only get to choose between the least shitty of the available outcomes, and a few people in detainment is certainly the least shitty outcome compared to every other outcome of CIA funded terrorism. If you can think of a better one, please enlighten me. And if you think CIA funding terrorisms is just a conspiracy, then you are not really in a position to talk about propaganda or dishonestly.

    • @SleepingDrag0n Forcing the Uigyurs, people that were living there for hundreds of years, to learn and use a different language than their own and get indoctrinated with CCP propaganda is very bad, especially as nobody is allowed to investigate these camps independently and without the CCP preparing themselves to make themselves look better, making way worse possible. There is a huge difference between forcing people that lived there for hundreds of years to learn a new language and "forcing" (because you arent really forced to) immigrants to learn your language, dont be dishonest. I dont care about the semantics of the word assimilation. And using a CIA conspiracy theory to detain thousands of innocent people, who werent proven guilty in any manner acceptable if you believe in a fair justice system, in camps just for being part of a certain ethnic group is very bad and unjustifiable. I dont support the US or the capitalist west either and agree that they are also bad, but that doesnt make these crimes against human rights any better.

    • @ROFLCOPTER I've watched the entire 1 hour 20 mins of his video, and i've wrote a wall of text rebuting some of his points. I will post that here in response to you as well. "You claim that China's intention of "forcing" the Uyghurs to learn the Chinese language constitutes as cultural genocide. Are Chinese Americans in the US not "forced" to learn English? Do you think that constitutes as cultural genocide? Much like English in the US, the Chinese language is the only official language of China, and being able to read and speak it at a fluent level is a prerequisite to accessing higher level education and most career opportunities. At no point did the Chinese government forbid or discourage the use of the Uyghur language at home or in their own communities, just like the Chinese Americans in US are free to use Chinese at home or within their own communities. The word assimilation has a negative connotation in English, and you associate that with genocide, probably because based on your own history, your idea of assimilation of another culture is simply by wiping them out like Canada did to the Indigenous. The Chinese version of the phrase, 融合, carries no such negative connotation. 融 means to melt, 合 mean to combine, it is not one culture being changed into another, rather two cultures mixing and becoming one. In our history, when we assimilated with another culture, it is a sharing and fusion of both cultures. A good example of this is the Manchus, once a nomadic people to the Northeast, they conquered China, established the Qing dynasty, and ruled China for over 200 years. During this time they decided to adopt the Chinese language and the Confucian philosophy, and we came to accept their rule as part of our own history. These days, the Qing dynasty is simply known as China's last dynasty, what was once called Manchuria is simply known as Northeast China, and Machu descendants are simply known as Chinese people. But that iconic Chinese dress, Qipao, that is a Manchurian dress, and millions of Chinese girls celebrate the new year or get married wearing them every year. Their culture was never erased, it simply combined to form what we consider as Chinese culture today. Assimilation in the context that we use it is never about erasing other cultures, it is about erasing the boundaries that separate our cultures. So therein lies a fundamental error when you use Chinese government's documents talking about assimilation as evidence of their intention to carry out cultural genocide. Onto the detainments. During the latter half of the 2000s, there were multiple severe terrorist attacks in Xinjiang carried out by religious extremist groups. US Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson stated in a speech at the Ron Paul Institute that one of the reasons that America invaded and stayed in Afghanistan is so that the CIA can have access to the Uyghurs of Xinjiang and use them to destabilize China. Given US's history of funding extremism and terrorism abroad to serve their own interest, it's not hard to put two and two together and come to the conclusion that the CIA was behind those terrorist attacks to begin with. Chinese government was forced to implement their own countermeasures in response to this threat, and perhaps they went too far, perhaps there were collateral damage along the way. However looking at what happened to places where US successfully cultivated extremism and terrorism, I'd very rather we go too far than not far enough. A few thousand innocent people in detainment as a preventive measure, while being provided free vocational training as compensation I might add, is a far better option than letting the US have its way and turning the entire Xinjiang region into the next Afghanistan/Iraq/Syria. Not ideal, but it's the best we can make of given the circumstances. It's not like the West set a great example on how to deal with religious extremism and terrorist attacks, right? By the way, the number of terrorist attacks in Xinjiang have gone way down since implementing these measures, so harsh as they may be, they are working. However the US recently took ETIM, a UN sanctioned terrorist organization, off its own terrorist organizations list, so it looks like you guys aren't gonna stop funding terrorism in Xinjiang anytime soon, and therefore we can't ease the measures any time soon. If any of you Americans truly care about the wellbeing of Uyghurs, kindly get your government to fuck off as far away as possible from Xinjiang. And yes, the Chinese government media is embarrassingly bad at this whole media warfare thing. It is kind of expected, since they've never had to construct a counter argument here at home, they've always just turned off the mic of the other guy. And yes, that's the extend they go to... usually. Lastly onto Adrien Zenz. At this point it is pretty obvious that he is yet another CIA funded religious extremist hellbent on destroying China. Yet your media and your politicians keep citing him as their source in all their attacks on China. It is hard to take any of that as anything besides hating us for the sake of hating us. If Osama bin Laden is still alive, would you care what his research says about America, or what anyone citing his research has to say? Sometimes it is good to take a step back and take a look at yourself through the lens of the side."

      SleepingDrag0nSleepingDrag0n4 օր առաջ
    • @SleepingDrag0n Nope, please watch the BadEmpanada video on the topic (he also doesnt believe in Adrien Zenz btw)

    • @ROFLCOPTER If you check the sources for the so called "Uyghur genocide", you will see that it all comes from one guy, Adrien Zenz. He is a religious nutcase who wrote a book on the rapture, and is in his own words, "led by god" on a mission to destroy China. In one of his tweets, he also let it slip that BBC came to him to commission a report on "Uyghur genocide". Think about that for a second, since when is it ok for a news organization to pay someone to manufacture the source material they then use in their news report? If that isn't proof that this whole "Uyghur genocide" is an anti-China propaganda campaign by the western media, I don't know what is.

    • @ROFLCOPTER Like the US? The US is looking a lot better today vs. 3-4 months ago. Try Brazil and many European countries, which have way higher case and death per capita rates than the US at the moment and have barely vaccinated anyone. The UK and US have done really well with vaccinations compared to most countries so far.

    • @Angry Kittens No, China isn't any more evil than any other country. I'm assuming you're a Southeast Asian, probably Filipino. Is your country evil for its brutal suppression of people struggling with drug addiction, corruption, crackdown on civil rights, etc? What about China relatively to the US/EU that have killed up to 30 million people in foreign invasions, coups and forceful destabilization in the last decades? Not to mention IMF/World Bank "development plans" that have underdeveloped and condemned to poverty so many third world nations. Are these countries evil? If you answer yes, then at least you're consistent. I would agree though, China's posturing on the south china sea is certainly aggressive and undiplomatic - even if some of the claims that it has on these territories have some legitimacy in some instances, it should abide by international law.
