  • Europe really landlocked Ethiopia due to them not being able to colonize them. I'm from America and I always research African nations and their history since America rarely teaches anything noteworthy about Africa. Ethiopia has always had the most unique and interesting history of any African nation. Humanity literally started there yet most Americans only know coffee comes from here.

  • Dams are very destructive. Contrary to popular beliefs hydro power is not green. Think of the damage they cause. One dam can destroy a thousand miles of ecosystem. Look at the Snake and Colombia rivers in the Pacific Northwest, the Tennessee River, the Mississippi, the Missouri, and so on. They increase water loss rate, increase the rate of beach erosion (when the water eventually reaches the ocean the sediment cannot because it is trapped behind a dam). Then on top of all of this fish cannot migrate. Ground water dams are much more effective at storing water and they do not alter the ecosystem because the water is underground.

  • Egypt is srtiving in vain to stop Ethiopia not to construct dams to generate electric power and dams for irrigation to boost food production. Egypt was lobbying since sixties so that international financial instituitions not to fund any projects in blue nile basin. That changed when visionary ethiopian leader Meles Zenawi started construction of the biggest dam in Africa and some irrigation projects in Blue Nile basin in Africa which generate 6000 megawat using national financing. Ethiopia fast economy growth is demanding big amount of electic power and 75% of population luck electic power with this high demand the need of building about five to ten hydroelectric dams are necessary to generate the needed 20000 megawat electric power to boost the economyand supply ethiopian poulation Noone has right to deny Ethiopians thier right to utilize the water of blue nile . Egypt is whinning about shortage of water when we see nile water got diverted toward west of nille route and evaporate doing nothing and nioe flows in medteranain sea unused sufficiently

  • Indeed, collaboration is better for Egypt, Sudan & Ethiopia. If Ethiopia accepts to collaborate, it will be great, but Ethiopia wouldn't. Real situation 2020, Ethiopia takes a decision to fill the dam with 4.5 BCM of water, which make all the Sudan dams stop generate electricity and drinkable water stations were out of service due to lack of water, after Ethiopia fill the dam (10 days later) it opened the Dam gates, which make horrible folds in Sudan and Killed 100 civil people. Ethiopia thinks the Nile is a local river, not an international river. And they break the International laws for international reviews, which might lead to war between Sudan/Egypt Vs Ethiopia. 1 - Some real information, the Ethiopian Dam doesn't need to be filled with 74 BCM, to generate 16GW/h of electricity, they can do the same with 14 BCM, but Ethiopian contain a lot of hate and jealousy toward Egypt, Since Egypt is the gift of the Nile and Ethiopian fight each other due to race, religion, language ....etc. 2- Egypt already built Dams in Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, and all the Nile Basin Countries collaborate together, except Ethiopia. 3- Egypt & Sudan accept this dam under some conditions, to ensure the safety of the dam, international consultation had hired as fair assessment for dam safety, 2 companies from the Netherlands & France, this Dam has big safety issues and might collapse at folds due to the soil and Design of the Dam, Ethiopia rejects that, and didn't care because it will not harm its land, it harms Sudan (note the dam is 15 Km far from Sudan), water management, it doesn't make sense to keep the water to generate electricity and people, on the other hand, thirsty and hungry. 4- Nile water for Egyptians is a matter of life, without Nile water which represents 97% of water supplies in Egypt, Egypt will be thirsty and hungry. On the other side, Ethiopia would only generate electricity, for development, not for live as Egypt. 5- Ethiopia thinks the Nile is a local river, not an international river. And they break the International laws for international reviews.

That's the main issue , 74 billion are enough to destroy Sudan and 75% of Egypt 's land if the dam collapses , and if not it will be a continuous threat to both countries . Ethiopia has 900 billion meters of water 💦 raining each year . Ethiopia has many other dams inside it's land but this one is on the borders with Sudan and not safe. From these facts we conclude it's a declaration of war on both Egypt and Sudan .

All what is Egypt is trying to do for ten years is to bind Ethiopia with an agreement to save Egypt and Sudan from this existential threat u mentioned. While Ethiopia keep refusing to sign the agreement and push to impose the reality of the dam on both countries. Absolute misery that you need to point who is trying to control whom and for what

  • I am an Egyptian and war that Ethiopia want to start at the end of the day will not solve anything to both of us. Without the Nile there will be no life in Egypt so it’s life or death for us while for Ethiopia it’s economic growth can be done with many ways. What Egypt is asking for is to give us time before you fill your dam so we can prepare and maintain our water levels. and both of us will be happy but Ethiopia don't want to respect the people values and life's If Ethiopia was in our shoes it will say the same thing. 🇪🇬🦅🙏

  • Whoever told you that Egypt and Sudan refuse to cooperate with Ethiopia, Egypt supports the Ethiopian renaissance, but it rejects any unilateral action without taking into account the interests of the downstream countries. Egypt helped other countries build dams and helped them to advance, so why refuse that to Ethiopia. But the real question is why does Ethiopia want to build a dam on this particular river while it has 11 other rivers? There is more than one way to generate electricity other than this method, which leads to literally slow death to other countries. And how can Egypt and Sudan trust the Ethiopian government after it took unilateral action to fill the first filling of this dam, which affected Sudan, and also see the dam that Ethiopia built and what it did in Kenya as a result of the policies taken by the government, which caused the water supply to Lake Turkana to be cut off; And other disasters. All this and I did not talk about the problems that the downstream countries will actually encounter

  • Thank you for the nice video. I just have two corrections. 1) The 1902 was signed by independent Ethiopia (the king of Ethiopia at that time signed the agreement). The British signed on behalf of Egypt and the Sudan which were british colonies at that time while Ethiopia was completely independent and signed the agreement. And btw this same agreement defines the boarders between Ethiopia and the Sudan and is recognized by the united nations. 2) I think you meant that size of the reservoir behind Ethiopia’s dam is larger than greater London. The amount of water flowing to Egypt and Sudan through the nile (blue and white niles) is on average 74 billions cubic meters annually and the amount of rains in Ethiopia is more than a 1000 billions cubic meters annually. I don’t think it rains that much in London!

    • King Minilik did sign to never stope the natural flow of the Abay river down stream which is right. But, this doesn't mean he had an agreement to the treaty that allocates the water between only Egypt & Sudan and that completely exclude upstream countries including Ethiopia. the treaty even allocates 11% of the water to evaporation which the up stream countries don't have.

  • It's actually not true that there have never been water wars. Ethiopia and Egypt have fought more than 5 between 1875 and 1884. The video seemed to imply that Ethiopia was a colony of GB in 1929 when the first agreement was signed. Ethiopia was never a colony. The Egyptians and the British just didn't think it was important enough to invite the country that produced 80-85% of the waters to the table. The British were handicapped by their racism, what's Egypt's excuse ? And rather than see that as a huge injustice to address, Egypt and its supporters continue to insist that because of poor choices Egypt has made in being solely reliant on the Nile, that other countries can't use the Nile. Ethiopia's plan to use the Blue Nile (Abay) was studied in the 1960's. Egypt used its influence to prevent it from obtaining loans to build the Dam. Egypt engaged in political disruptions of Ethiopia through support of ethnic rebel fronts (OLF, EPLF, ELF,ONLF) throughout the 60's through the 90's to handicap Ethiopia's realization of utilization of the Nile. In the 2000's, 11 African countries, (Burundi, DR Congo, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda), came together under the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) to cooperatively develop a sustainable plan to utilize the Nile equitably. Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania signed a cooperative framework agreement to develop water use plans which made Egypt and Sudan angry. Between 1875 and 1884 Egypt sent no less than 5 army's to invade and occupy Ethiopia, all annihilated by the Ethiopians. African countries are refusing to beg Egypt permission to use the Nile. Egypt has had decades to prepare to wean itself off using the Nile to develop its desalination and ground water plans which have been shelved, again, for decades. Egypt's and Sudan's insistence that Ethiopia and the other African countries not touch "their" water shares is the same as Ethiopia and the other African countries insisting Egypt and Sudan not touch their oil. Ethiopia didn't draw up a plan that gives itself 58% of Egypt's oil free and clear for its use. So, let's not engage in absurdities just because others do. Let's not create or abide ridiculous equivalencies that stretch, and frankly insult, our credulity. Just like any other sovereign nation Ethiopia will use any of its rivers as it pleases. If they are transboundary rivers, it will try to use them in such a way that significant harm does not come to other countries. But Ethiopia will not starve or suffer want anymore just so Egypt can irrigate its pretty parks. Last time I checked parks are not an existential need.

  • I like this video. I want to add some point. They say source of blue nile is " Tana River" this is also wrong and controversial. Those who write history in Ethiopia are those Habasha who are born around lake Tana. They have been writing history wrong for century because they dominated the political power of the country. Biggest flow of blue nile natural water are from multiple lakes, and rivers of Oromia. To name few Fincha river/Dam, Amuru River/Dam and multiple tributaries rivers in Oromia makes Blue Nile.... If we get qualified person and measure the water flow in Oromia. Tana is one lake. Most of the rain and natural forest are in Oromia. Northern Ethiopia is known by its drought. Most of the fertile soil erosion Egypt and Sudan have enjoyed comes from from oromia. Ethiopia's main agricultural hubs are in Oromia and most of those farmers use traditional outdated farming technique which is causing most erosion of fertile soil we see on Nile river especially during rainy season in Oromia. It is a not a rocket science to even judge it yourself by looking at what nile caries to Egypt and Sudan, Yes it is Oromia's fertile soil......

  • If you look at the map, you will find that Ethiopia is covered in green due to the abundance of water it has, as nearly 900 billion cubic meters of rain fall year. After about 4 months of this video, it is happening now that the regime in Ethiopia want to exterminate the Egyptian people, and every day they make statements every day that Egypt took the water of the Nile, and we will control the water and we will sell the surplus? This is how the Ethiopians speak boldly, without regard for the millions of Egyptians who have no other source of water than the Nile River. Egypt, which was born on the Nile thousands of years ago, and all the civilizations of Egypt throughout the ages consider the Nile a lifeline, and without it, there would be no Egypt. Today comes a country ( Ethiopia ) that has no conscience and does not respect anyone and simply wants to annihilate a people ?? Egyptians have pride, and if the matter is spent, and we will die of thirst, and our lands will turn into a barren land, so it is better for us to die in a battle to protect the Nile because Egypt is the gift of the Nile.

  • The problem Ethiopia has with Egypt is deep rooted and historical. Egypt reminds me of 'Little Finger' from Game of Thrones. Behind most of our wars was the master mind of Egypt making sure we stay poor and divided. As Egypt is dubbed the 'Gift of the Nile', we might be the 'Curse of the Nile'. Even if we didn't do anything on the dam, Egypt for centuries feared what might be and destabilized us. We also had two wars directly, i.e them trying to subdue and control the source. It didn't work out for them tho. We are really cursed by the geography of the Nile. What benefits us hurts them. What hurts us, benefits them. Add to that, race and religious differences, and the politics of other forces. War is coming!!

  • The Hell with "Egypt." A contract between thieves are "nil" and void-- 66 percent to 22 percent? And they used the Aswan dam to eras history and depopulate indigenous people--No matter, these "Ethiopian" are being royally set up.

    Elrik KvaloElrik Kvalo15 օր առաջ
    • @daniel abraham yeah, It's not just at all. The Dam is a trap nonetheless. I see no reason why "Egypt" doesn't just develop renewable energy source for the benefit of Sudan and Ethiopia so their supply of water is no effed with. They will never win if it comes to war. But just watch out for the UAE and the Saudis as they plan on building a city of 150 miles long until the Red Sea. And they also want the water. I hope they never fall for Alii Baba's old tricks.

      Elrik KvaloElrik Kvalo15 օր առաջ
    • Hey bro. The Ethiopian share is 0% in that deal while contributing 85% to the dam. And, ofcourse Ethiopia wasn't party to that deal. Never seen a deal that lopsided lmao. The funny thing is that Egypt wants us to respect that "deal" with a straight face!!

      daniel abrahamdaniel abraham15 օր առաջ
  • what did you contribute for Ethiopians? ONLY WAR.look the southern American states.they are growing together by international water laws.but you say only for Egypt. change your attitude .what if you Egyptians contribute 94 percent water share and to to be told by others you can not use it your own resource? we say let us grow together /use our resource together.

  • England is not the source of the Nile. They have no ethical authority in "distributing" what Ethiopia produces. They should manage their own Island.

  • "Dependence on the water is nearly non exsistent" Really? The GERD dam has not been initiated by Ethiopia as a luxury project but a necessity and backbone for its industrialization dreams.

CAMIDRCS Media NetworkCAMIDRCS Media Network15 օր առաջ
  • Well in order to really talk and inform on such a delicate matter; you need to study the Dam characteristics and its maximum water flow, and how is that going to affect the water flow and levels in the Nile. Which the numbers show even more water shortages in Egypt and Sudan. Plus It's an international river so all international rivers' laws apply to it that clearly ensures food and water safety for all countries, so Egypt and Sudan have every right to that river's water. The other thing is the location of the dam isn't on level grounds and with such a massive amount of water and water pressure it there are concerns about its failure thus drowning all cities in Sudan along the Nile. Concerning Electricity, Egypt already has excess power and offered to export and help Ethiopia Generate Electricity by other means. It was also proposed to reduce the dam's size to reduce its negative effects as there are more negatives than positives regarding this dam, but Ethiopia refused both offers. On top of that, I am not surprised that you didn't mention the Nile friendship treaty between the three countries that they all agreed on and signed in 2015. in that treaty, Egypt and Sudan compromised and agreed to lose some of the water flow in order for Ethiopia to build that dam, and all three countries operate the dam and for the reservoir to be filled over 15 years to minimize the water shortage. Well, you guessed it! Ethiopia is now backing off and withdrawing from the treaty and started filling the reservoir and gonna fill it in 3 to 5 years onlyyyy! So, how can Egypt and Sudan trust such a nation, that is refusing to compromise and negotiate and manipulative that threatens their water security. You tell me!!!!!!
